Joseph Sciortino

Executive Director

Mr. Sciortino is Executive Director of The Schmidt Family Foundation and has been with the Foundation since its inception in 2006. He oversees all facets of the foundation’s programs, including The 11th Hour Project, which he led as Project Director for four years. He manages a team of dedicated professionals working at the nexus of energy, food and agriculture, water, and human rights.  

Mr. Sciortino is proud to be an active participant in the non-profit sector, including having been Board Chair for The Regeneration Project and as a featured speaker to the Environmental Grantmakers Association, the Justice Funders, and the Presidents’ Forum on Racial Equity in Philanthropy. He has spent many years volunteering in the Bay Area, including with the Gulf of the Farallones Marine Sanctuary, AIDS LifeCycle, Project Homeless Connect, and as a Court-Appointed Special Advocate for foster youth. 

He has a M.S. in Environmental Management from The University of San Francisco (USF) and a B.S. in finance and marketing from New York University. He is currently an alumni mentor for USF and a guest lecturer at Stanford University.
