The Clean Coalition is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to accelerate the transition to renewable energy and a modern grid through technical, policy, and project development expertise.
With support from the 11th Hour Project, the Clean Coalition is driving clean energy transformations through the following undertakings:
Community Microgrids: Working in partnership with electric utilities, the Clean Coalition’s Community Microgrid Initiative is proving that local renewables connected to the distribution grid can provide at least 25% of the total electric energy consumed while at least maintaining grid reliability and power quality. These demonstration projects will serve as models for modernizing America’s electrical system in the most intelligent manner possible. Current Community Microgrid projects include the Hunters Point Community Microgrid Project in San Francisco, California and the Long Island Community Microgrid Project on Long Island in New York.
Policy: The Clean Coalition drives policy innovation to streamline planning, procurement, and interconnection of distributed energy resources – such as local renewables, advanced inverters, demand response, and energy storage – and to establish market mechanisms that realize the full potential of integrating these solutions. We are most active in California and New York.
Communications: Through in-person and digital outreach, the Clean Coalition highlights the ongoing transition towards renewable energy and shares success stories from its own work and across the industry. Our work has been featured in Forbes, National Geographic, and the Los Angeles Times.
